Jesse Lingard has agreed not to return to Manchester United at the end of the season and will now pursue a permanent transfer to West Ham.
The Academy graduate did not feature in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans earlier in the season, appearing in just a couple of cup games before being signed on loan by the Hammers in January.
His type has been outstanding since then. In just 11 games, the 28-year-old has scored nine goals and given four assists. He has also been called back into the England squad and has thrived in David Moyes's center-forward spot, a position he had only filled four times before.
Lingard, according to Eurosport, is having so much fun in London that he has decided to stay rather than move to Old Trafford.
‘Jesse Lingard is almost likely to press for a permanent move away from Manchester United this summer,' according to the publication.
‘His loan deal with West Ham United expires at the end of the season, but it is believed that his current lease on life in London is telling him that it is time to abandon Old Trafford for good.
‘Lingard was irritated and unimpressed with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's lack of confidence in him prior to loaning him out in January.
Due to his excellent form, West Ham has attempted to speed up a decision from United on a full-time transfer, but United does not wish to make a decision until the summer. West Ham is aware that he is happy at the club and is confident that if they apply for Europe, he would be willing to consider a long-term stay.'
Moyes has already stated his desire to retain Lingard at the club, but the price tag could be the only stumbling block.
Transfermarkt.com rates him at only £13 million, even while the Hammers are likely to stretch to closer to £20 million, it may also be short of United's estimate, which is said to be closer to £30 million.
United’s interest in the Hammers’ holding midfielder Declan Rice could provide a solution if a player-plus-cash deal
