Manchester United have experienced a big setback in their search of Bundesliga ace Erling Haaland, according to Sky Germany
This follows the announcement by Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc that the Norwegian striker will remain at the club until at least 2022.
DON'T MISS:
Haaland is one of the most sought-after players as the summer season approaches.
With Dortmund failing to qualify for next season's Champions League, there was speculation that he would look for greener pastures elsewhere.
Zorc, on the other hand, has thrown a wrench in the works by saying that the player will remain at Dortmund regardless of where they finish this season.
With six games remaining, they lead Eintracht Frankfurt in fourth place by four points.
“The announcement will not be taken in the absence of Borussia Dortmund.
Erling will continue to play with us regardless of where we end up.”
DON'T MISS:
Haaland has been crucial to Dortmund's chances this season.
He is just one point behind Robert Lewandowski in the chase for the Bundesliga golden boot and could be crucial when the Germans make a final attempt to finish in the top four.
There is no doubt that United need a striker, and there are few better in the world than Haaland.
However, having to wait another year could work in our favor.
For starters, his £65 million release clause becomes active in 2022, which means United could sign him for a far cheaper price than they did this summer.
Second, the Red Devils will draw on the promise they demonstrated this season and take the next step in their progress.
Another point in our favor will be our potential to reemerge as a dominant force capable of winning top honors.
Zorc's comments came after the player's lawyer, Mino Raiola, traveled around Europe to meet with potential suitors.
Even if we do make a bid for Haaland this season, it is far from certain.
Not only will he cost in excess of £100million this summer but we will have to compete against the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool.
