The Portuguese midfielder has had a fantastic start to his career at Old Trafford, and despite getting a contract that lasts until 2025 – with an extension for an additional year – United bosses have been keen to lock him down to a new lucrative contract.
DON'T MISS:
According to The Sun, the 26-year-hesitation old's stems from Pogba's unclear future, as his new deal will expire in June next year, allowing him to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer.
United activated a one-year extension clause in Pogba's contract in October of last year but has made little progress on a long-term extension, with the player's lawyer, Mino Raiola, claiming on several occasions that Pogba is eager for a new opportunity.
However, Fernandes sees Pogba – who has had an excellent season – as utterly critical to the club's future, especially their chances of closing the gap on Manchester City.
DON'T MISS:
The Portugal international is said to be keeping a close eye on Pogba's situation and refuses to enter into negotiations until he has received promises about his teammate's future.
Fernandes needs to see evidence of the club's commitment and is particularly interested in their summer transfer plans, with moves for Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho hopefully offering the message of purpose he seeks.
While a marquee summer signing is not unreasonable, Pogba's future has been uncertain for some time, and there are reports that United might be forced to sell him if he refuses to sign a new contract.
But there is still hope for United, with Pogba having one of his finest seasons at the club, both on and off the field, and recently announcing his contentment to Sky Sports, saying: 'I'm good!'
Of course, I'm pleased.
'I'm content.'
We're there, and we're on the verge of winning trophies.
We're already in the Europa League, and we've got little to play for in the Premier League before City has the cup in their possession.'
We must continue to function.
