Manchester United and Chelsea eye shock transfer moves for £25m Denmark defender

Manchester United and Chelsea eye shock transfer moves for £25m Denmark defender

Following his great performances at Euro 2020, Manchester United and Chelsea have shown interest in signing Denmark defender Joachim Andersen.

Andersen, a 25-year-old Lyon defender, played in all three of Denmark's knockout matches at the Euros, helping the Danes beat Wales and the Czech Republic before losing to England in the semi-finals.

DON'T MISS:

Andersen is well-known in the Premier League after spending the 2019-20 season on loan with Fulham, where he impressed despite the Cottagers' relegation.

Despite returning to Lyon this summer, Andersen is anticipated to sign a permanent contract with an English team before the start of next season, with a number of clubs keen.

According to the Sun, both Manchester United and Chelsea have identified the £25 million star as a cheaper alternative if top targets Raphael Varane and Jules Kounde fail to materialize.

DON'T MISS:

Man United and Real Madrid have started talks about a trade for France international Varane, and Chelsea has also identified the multiple Champions League winner as a prospective target.

Varane is expected to sign a new contract at the Bernabeu, which means United and Chelsea may be forced to look elsewhere to bolster their defensive options.

Andersen is a target for both teams, but Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester City, and Crystal Palace are also thought to be keeping tabs on his status.

Andersen was impressed after replacing Chelsea's Andreas Christensen in the 79th minute of Denmark's semi-final match against England on Wednesday, but the hosts were able to advance to their first Euros final with a 2-1 victory.

Gareth Southgate’s side, who have conceded just one goal at Euro 2020, will now face unbeaten Italy in Sunday’s final at Wembley.
