Manchester United is adamant about bringing Raphael Varane to Old Trafford.
Manchester United's £35 million bid for Real Madrid's Raphael Varane may be accepted if they express a willingness to spend more in add-ons in the future, according to reports. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is desperate to win the France international. And it would be a huge event for the Red Devils if that happened.
DON'T MISS:
Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton have already joined Manchester United.
They're hoping Varane will be the next player to walk through the door at Old Trafford, with the club pursuing him hard.
The centre-current back's Real Madrid deal expires in a year, therefore the club must sell him now or risk losing him for free next season.
And now, according to Defensa Central, Los Blancos are willing to accept a £35 million upfront cost for the World Cup winner.
That is, assuming they collect another £8 million in add-ons.
Varane would be eligible for these bonuses if he played a set amount of games for United and was called up to the France national team.
They're relatively easy to come by, and it'd be their way of getting Varane off the books while simultaneously securing the cash they're chasing.
Due to his contract predicament with the club, United has made it known that they do not want to overpay for the 28-year-old.
DON'T MISS:
Despite assigning Marcelo the club leadership following Sergio Ramos' departure, Real is still hoping Varane will sign a new contract with them.
However, there is a startling rumor that the defender wants to stay for another year before joining United.
Real, on the other hand, is driving things as they want to make as much money as they can while they still can.
And all indications point to a deal being reached sooner rather than later.
If that happens, United will surely see Varane's signing as a significant coup, as he is regarded as one of the best defenders on the planet.
They intend to pair him with Harry Maguire in the coming season, giving the Red Devils one of the strongest defensive units in the world.
A back four with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw on the wings, as well as Maguire and Varane in the middle, might be the key to the club winning the Premier League title.
Varane isn't the only player who could arrive before the transfer window closes.
United are also interested in making a third huge signing, with Kieran Trippier and Eduardo Camavinga being mentioned.
And we'll have to wait and see what happens.
Luke Chadwick has backed his former club's pursuit of Varane, believing the World Cup winner would be the ideal addition to Solskjaer's squad.
Chadwick told CaughtOffside, "If you could pick any centre half in the world to go and alongside Harry Maguire, it would be Varane.
“He's a Rolls Royce of a player; you don't win as many titles as he has without having an unbelievable attitude. With Ramos also departing, PSG appears to be interested in both players, but Varane would be a dream acquisition for United right now if they could get him over the line.
“PSG can give more money, but Varane is another player who has never played in the Premier League, so it's unclear whether the financial incentive or the chance to play in the Premier League is more important to him.”
Angel Di Maria was the last Real Madrid player United signed in 2014.
But, after struggling to acclimate to life in England, the Argentina international only lasted a year before joining PSG.
