Kevin Campbell urges him to rejoin Aston Villa this summer

Kevin Campbell, a former Arsenal striker, feels Axel Tuanzebe should return to Aston Villa after failing to find regular playing time at Manchester United.

Tuanzebe spent the previous 18 months on loan with the Midlands team, where he was instrumental in achieving promotion from the Championship in 2018/19.

DON'T MISS:

The Villans were unable to re-sign him upon their return to the Premier League, but they may have another chance this summer.

Manager Dean Smith is reportedly interested in signing the center-back to offer competition for Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa in central defense.

Campbell told Play Insider believes it is the appropriate time for Tuanzebe to leave United for Villa in order to earn regular first-team football.

“It's time to leave,” he said. He needs to get out there and play some football. These young men at the giant clubs are only playing on the sidelines and need to get out and play.”

“Tuanzebe is a fantastic player who deserves to play on a regular basis. At Aston Villa, I believe he would get game time. They loved him a lot when he was on loan there. It's now or never.”

Sportslens' point of view:

Tuanzebe had 19 appearances for the Red Devils last season, but only four of them were Premier League starts.

Three of these occurred in May, when Harry Maguire was injured and Victor Lindelof was rested in preparation for the Europa League final.

He's presently the fourth-choice center-back after Maguire, Lindelof, and Eric Bailly, and he might fall much farther down the pecking order.

Raphael Varane is on his way to the club from Real Madrid, and his arrival could leave Tuanzebe with very little first-team minutes.

A move to Villa Park would give the 23-year-old a better opportunity of getting playing time as Konsa and Mings' immediate backup.

During the second half of last season, Villa's defense was ordinary. In the long run, Tuanzebe has a chance to unseat one of the duo.

The United graduate can also play comfortably at right-back, and his versatility would be an added boost for the Midlands outfit.
