This week, Rio Ferdinand reminded everyone about David Moyes' first summer as Manchester United manager, which was a joke.
Thiago personally phoned him to secure a move to United, which he passed on, only for the club to disregard it and imply other transactions were being worked on instead, he stated on his YouTube channel.
DON'T MISS:
Marouane Fellaini was United's only comprehensive deal in the summer of 2013. Moyes did not even make it through his second summer with the club, and was fired before the season ended.
Manchester United bought Southampton's Luke Shaw a few weeks later, and in an interview with The Times, Moyes said he was pleased with the signing.
“I've always thought of myself as having a tremendous talent,” he remarked. I've admired him since he first broke through for Southampton at the age of 17, and I thought Manchester United made a great decision when they bought him in 2014.”
DON'T MISS:
The Scot will have been engaged in some of the talks about potentially signing Shaw in the months leading up to his dismissal, and based on his statements, it's highly likely the transaction would have gone through even if he had stayed on.
Moyes made the remarks ahead of England's Euro 2020 semi-final match against Denmark.
“In his early days, it was Shaw's attacking that drew notice — and his attacking has bloomed again for United this season, and now for England in these Euros,” he said.
His aptitude has never been questioned, and he plays with such assurance and pleasure.”
Despite not appearing in the tournament's first game, Shaw supplied two assists in England's 4-0 win against Ukraine and has generated more chances than any other Three Lions player.
Shaw has become the man of the moment as a result of his performances, and he was recently complimented by Brazilian star Roberto Carlos.
Shaw expressed his surprise at the honor in an interview with the club's website.
Shaw said: "It's great to hear from one of the best left-backs in history, and I couldn't believe it after the game when I saw he had followed me and commented."
“It was a weird feeling, but I take massive respect from it and it’s really nice to hear those words from somebody like that.”Shaw has to do it all again for England against Denmark in the semi-final tonight, and he will relish the opportunity. He is playing well as part of a defense with Harry Maguire which has not conceded a single goal all tournament.
