Can he Kick On From His Emphatic European Championship With England?

Can he Kick On From His Emphatic European Championship With England?

Luke Shaw capped off a fantastic club season with Manchester United in the 2020/21 season with an even greater European Championship competition, scoring in the final.

Even though he didn't start the opening game for Gareth Southgate's Three Lions, Shaw rapidly established himself as the left-back of choice, even when the manager switched to a three-back defense with Shaw playing somewhat higher.

Shaw's confidence became stronger with each passing game. The Manchester United left back was constantly put in good situations, and it was against Germany in the Round of 16 that he broke into the final third and provided assists.

Shaw's return to form hasn't been easy, especially following a double leg break and a tussle with ex-manager Jose Mourinho, but the Englishman has put together a year that he is unlikely to forget anytime soon.

Shaw has had a fresh lease of life since the arrival of Alex Telles from FC Porto last summer, and it has driven him on to become the left defender he is today. He's finally settled in at Old Trafford and seems a world away from the player he was two seasons ago.

DON'T MISS:

The former Southampton midfielder is a constant threat down the left flank, blasting balls into dangerous areas while also offering a threat in the box. Shaw's skill and timing are an art, as evidenced by his goal against Italy, and he has an intuitive ability to judge when to run into the box and when to remain out.

Shaw will be expected to return to pre-season training next week and pick up where he left off with both his club and his country, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Shaw has proven his worth to the globe, earning the nickname "Shawberto Carlos" for a cause.

Many times last season, Manchester United's aggressive wide play was mostly directed via Shaw, a trend that is expected to continue this season given Solskjaer's success with it.

Shaw's next objective will be long-term consistency. He'll want to prove to himself and the rest of the world that he can maintain his world-class form in a second season, as well as after a long European Championship.

Shaw, who plays alongside Harry Maguire on Manchester United's left flank, is at ease with the centre back's ability to take the ball and bring it forward, allowing him to run in behind and seek for the ball over the top.

DON'T MISS:

Manchester United supporters are ecstatic about Shaw's rise to prominence and want nothing more than to see it continue in a season that is already full of promise and hope.
