MARK GOLDBRIDGE HAPPY WITH UNITED’S VARANE ALTERNATIVES

MARK GOLDBRIDGE HAPPY WITH UNITED’S VARANE ALTERNATIVES

Mark Goldbridge, a Manchester United YouTuber, has weighed in on the current transfer rumors surrounding the Red Devils and their search for a new center-back.

Since it became clear that Raphael Varane would be wanting to leave Real Madrid this summer, United has been linked with him. However, with the Frenchman reportedly not interested in joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United, the club has been connected with other defensive possibilities, with Pau Torres and Jules Kounde attracting Goldbridge's attention.

Goldbridge had this to say about the rumored Manchester United targets on the United Stand YouTube channel:

We talked about Torres last night, and according to The Athletic, Manchester United's centre-back alternatives are Kounde and Torres. This is hugely encouraging to me because if we don't get Varane, we won't be able to get [Dayot] Upamecano, [David] Alaba, or [Ibrahima] Konate.

“So, you go a little further, and I honestly think Torres and Kounde aren't bad. That those two would be the backup alternatives if Varane isn't available isn't horrible. That's quite reassuring.”

TIF Opinions on Manchester United's defensive options...

If United are unable to sign four-time Champions League winner Varane, they appear to have a strong list of potential substitutes.

DON'T MISS:

Torres is a player United supporters may remember from last month's Europa League final, when he was part of the Villarreal team that upset United.

According to reports, the Spanish center-back has a €65 million (£55.7 million) release clause, which United could choose to exercise if they are unable to secure their alleged first choice.

The other option touted is Sevilla's Kounde, who is rated at £54 million by Transfermarkt. With six and four years on Varane, respectively, splurging the cash on a younger prospect may be more worthwhile.
