According to the Mirror, the agents of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane will meet with Manchester United officials this week to try to finalize a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is allegedly looking for a new center-back as he attempts to assemble a team capable of challenging for major honours next season after failing to win any silverware in the previous campaign.

Varane has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, and it appears that the Red Devils have rekindled their interest in the French international amid rumors that he is dissatisfied in Madrid.

Last week, the Manchester Evening News reported that Manchester United had made an initial £50 million proposal for Varane, but that Real Madrid, while willing to sell, was holding out for closer to £80 million.

DON'T MISS:

Varane's contract at the Bernabeu expires in a year, so that price sounds high, yet the Mirror reports that Madrid is ready to make a deal for roughly £50 million.

Varane is keen in moving to England, according to the publication, and his representatives are hoping to meet with Man Utd officials this week to discuss a move to Old Trafford.

Varane has reportedly refused a two-year contract extension at Real Madrid, and the La Liga giants are willing to sell him to help fund a deal for a top striker such as Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland, according to the Mirror.

Varane is also being pursued by Paris Saint-Germain, according to the source, but the former Lyon star favors a transfer to the Premier League and will seek a four-year contract with United.

We'll have to wait and see what happens in the following days, but Varane would be a fantastic acquisition for Manchester United if they can pull it off, since he's been one of Europe's greatest defenders in recent years.

The 28-year-old would be a significant upgrade over Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the United back four, and he has the ability to establish a rock-solid partnership with Harry Maguire.

Varane has been with Real Madrid for ten years, but his time there appears to be coming to an end, with Carlo Ancelotti's side already signing David Alaba from Bayern Munich as a possible replacement.
