According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United is getting more optimistic in their ability to recruit Pau Torres from Villarreal after submitting an increased offer for Jadon Sancho.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is anticipated to be active in the transfer market this summer as he seeks to assemble a team capable of winning major titles next season after failing to win any trophy in the previous campaign.
Man United has been heavily connected with Raphael Varane in recent days, but the Manchester Evening News reports that after a £50 million bid was turned down by Real Madrid, United are now looking to sign Pau Torres instead.
Manchester United is growing increasingly hopeful of being able to strike a deal with Villarreal, according to the news outlet, after making headway on a prospective move - however, any deal is likely to happen after the Euros.
Torres' contract contains a release clause of roughly £51 million [€60 million], according to the M.E.N, but United believes the La Liga club may be willing to accept a player-plus-cash deal this summer given the present financial circumstances.
Last month, Manchester United saw firsthand how gifted Torres is, as the 24-year-old was outstanding in Villarreal's Europa League final victory over Solskjaer's side.
Torres would be a fantastic addition to the United squad if a deal could be reached. As a left-footed central defender, he would be the ideal companion for Maguire in the center of the back four.
Man United has been heavily linked with a deal for Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho this summer, and Solskjaer is eager to bolster his assault with another right-winger.
According to the M.E.N, United has made an upgraded offer for the England international valued roughly £75 million, with a bigger upfront payment and a lower value due to add-ons.
Dortmund is apparently still reviewing the current bid because it falls short of their valuation – which is above £80 million – but it appears that Man United and Sancho are moving closer to a deal this summer.
We'll have to wait and see how things develop, but it appears that United are planning a sensational double swoop for Torres and Sancho. The combined deal would cost roughly £126 million, but Torres and Sancho would be terrific additions that would help Man Utd progress to the next level.
