How Man Utd could line up with 5 signings after Joel Glazer transfer promise

The executive co-chairman of Manchester United has promised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a sizable transfer budget.

The Glazer family has promised to open their wallets this summer in order to keep Manchester United from entering crisis mode.

DON'T MISS:

United fans have expressed their displeasure with the club's ownership through mass protests at Old Trafford over their handling of club finances and the attempted move to the European Super League.

This has prompted co-chairman Joel Glazer to engage in heated discussions with fan groups about United's future plans.

In one of his first public speeches since taking over in 2007, Glazer pledged to build bridges by supporting Solskjaer in the transfer market ahead of the 2021/22 season at a fans' forum event last night.

Solskajer has compiled a list of targets in order to strengthen his squad and launch a Premier League title challenge in 2021/22, and Express Sport looks at how United could line up if Glazer sticks to his word.

DON'T MISS:

With David de Gea's long-term future uncertain and Solskjaer still not convinced by Dean Henderson, Italian star Donnarumma has been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Following his release from AC Milan, he is now available on a free transfer, and if United can outbid PSG and Barcelona on wages, they could have a new No. 1 for the next ten years.

AARON WAN-BISSAKA

With 69 Premier League appearances in the last two seasons, Wan-Bissaka has been an ever-present at right-back for Solskjaer.

Because of his consistency at full-back, Solskjaer is unlikely to be looking for a replacement this summer.

RAPHAEL VARANE

Sir Alex Ferguson expressed an interest in Varane as a teenager at Lens, and United have been linked with him for over a decade.

Despite his incredible success at Real Madrid, this summer could be an excellent opportunity to sign him.

Contract extension talks have stalled in recent weeks, with optimism for a resumption after Euro 2020 based on Sergio Ramos' situation.

If he does not extend his contract beyond 2022 this summer, Los Blancos will almost certainly look to sell him, with Manchester United ready to make a £40 million bid.

HARRY MAGUIRE,

Maguire's absence from the Europa League final due to injury highlighted his significance to Solskjaer.

He has also played a consistent role at the back since 2018, and the prospect of a new partner alongside him could help him step up his game.

LUKE SHAW

Shaw's United career was at a crossroads at the start of the 2020/21 season, but his impressive response last season convinced Solskjaer that he is the right man for the job at left-back.

Alex Telles has been on the bench in recent months despite five Premier League assists in 32 Premier League games and a significant improvement in his defensive game.

DECLAN RICE

Rice's West Ham future is in jeopardy this summer, with the 22-year-old set to start for Gareth Southgate's England squad.

Despite persistent rumours linking him with a return to Chelsea ahead of the 2021/22 season, United are just as interested in him as the Blues.

His price will rise from £50 million to over £65 million if he performs well in Euro 2020, but United appear to be committed to him as a long-term holding midfielder.

PAUL POGBA,

Rumours of Pogba leaving United this summer have died down in 2021, and the Frenchman appears to be happy at Old Trafford.

Some key goals in key games in 2020/21 convinced Solskajer to stick with the former Juventus man, and with Rice's dependability alongside him, he would have more license to influence games.

BRUNO FERNANDES,

During his first 18 months at United, Fernandes has established himself as the club's most important player.

Forty goals in 80 appearances demonstrate the important role he plays in this team, and no matter what changes Solskjaer makes this summer, he will remain a key figure.

JADON SANCHO

Sancho was a target for Solskjaer last summer, but Borussia Dortmund baulked at a £100 million asking price.

That situation appears to have improved slightly ahead of 2021/22, with the Bundesliga club more willing to negotiate a transfer and lowering their valuation to under £100 million.

The key to this transaction appears to be timing, with Dortmund determined to complete all of their business before the start of preseason training.

A sustained move for Sancho could be the litmus test for the Glazers in the coming weeks, as Solskjaer has made his intentions on the England winger clear, but negotiations will be difficult.

HARRY KANE,

If Sancho is a litmus test for the Glazers, a realistic bid for Kane could determine the next stage of their ownership at United.

Kane has indicated his desire to leave Tottenham this summer, with United, Manchester City, and Chelsea all vying for his services.

With Spurs demanding an initial fee of £150 million, City are undoubtedly the frontrunners at the moment, but the Glazers will be determined to keep United in the hunt.

As things stand, City appears to be winning the race to sign Kane, but if United match their offer and Solskjaer is able to sell his vision to the England international, the Red Devils could find themselves in pole position for the Premier League title in 2021.

MARCUS RASHFORD,

Despite the potential fanfare surrounding the arrivals of Sancho and/or Kane at Old Trafford, Rashford'simportance should not be overlooked.

He is a fan favourite of both United fans and Solskjaer, and he is an important player for both club and country.

Despite a string of minor injuries at the end of the season, his place in Solskjaer's plans remained unchanged.
