He claims that Boca talks were real and explains Manchester United stay

last month, Edinson Cavani announced his intention to remain at Manchester United.

The striker, 34, committed his future to the club by signing a one-year contract extension, putting an end to speculation about his future.

DON'T MISS:

Cavani was linked to a summer move to Argentine club Boca Juniors, according to ESPN in April.

Cavani has admitted that this was a genuine option and that discussions were held.

“The conversation with Boca was real,” he said in Uruguay, according to TyC Sports.“I had a clause that I could use at the end of the season and after a few months here in Uruguay, to see what is happening after nearly two years of the pandemic, to lose many things, to be unable to see your family... Everything becomes very heavy, and I consider getting closer to my family.”

Cavani had been having a difficult time at United at this point, missing games in February and March due to injuries, including both legs of Europa League ties against Real Sociedad and then AC Milan.

Why did Cavani stay?

Cavani explained his decision to extend his contract with United by saying he wanted to leave a lasting impression at Old Trafford.

DON'T MISS:

According to Depo Argentina, he added, "I coldly thought that I did not want to go through Manchester United and leave nothing behind, so I wanted to continue for another year and seek goals that motivate me."

And we appreciate Cavani's desire to extend his contract. He finished the season on a high note, scoring 17 goals in total.

Cavani was instrumental in United reaching the Europa League final, scoring four goals in the semi-finals and even scoring in the final before the team was eliminated on penalties.

Winning silverware would have been memorable for Cavani, and after coming so close this season, he will be even more determined to win next season.

Cavani is also said to have been drawn to the prospect of playing in front of Manchester United fans at Old Trafford. He's only done it once, in front of a crowd of 10,000 people, and he scored a memorable long-range goal. The experience should be even better next season, with nearly full stadiums returning.

Cavani's season is not yet over.

Cavani will miss the World Cup qualifiers this week as he serves a suspension.

Following that, he will be involved in Uruguay's Copa America campaign.

Uruguay will play Argentina in their first game, followed by Chile, Bolivia, and Paraguay.

We have no doubt Cavani will deliver performances to be proud of, but we hope he can avoid injury and get some rest before next season.
