Ajax leapfrog Man United in Sulemana race after Murtough talks

Ajax leapfrog Man United in Sulemana race after Murtough talks

According to Football Insider, Ajax has surpassed Manchester United in the race to sign FC Nordsjaelland striker Kamaldeen Sulemana.

In recent weeks, the two clubs have been locked in a bidding war for the Ghana international, 19, and have held talks about a deal.

According to a recruitment source, despite strong interest from Manchester United, Ajax is now in the driving seat to sign Sulemana.

Director of football John Murtough has led the Premier League giants' pursuit, but he has been unable to reach an agreement.

On the 17th of May, this website reported that a United delegation had flown to Denmark for talks about the possible transfer of Sulemana.

Nordsjaelland chairman Tom Vernon is willing to sell the young forward for £15 million.

Ajax had opened the bidding with a package worth £12 million in total, while United had withdrawn their bids.

The Dutch behemoths are in a strong position to close a deal, thanks in part to the fact that they will not need to secure a work permit, but also to the personal attention Marc Overmars is giving the transaction.

Sulemana does not have enough points to obtain a work permit under the new post-Brexit transfer rules.

That could change if the teenager makes one more competitive appearance for Ghana or if the Danish league moves up one spot in the Uefa coefficients.

DON'T MISS:

Ghana will play Morocco on June 8th as part of their preparations for the African qualifiers for next year's World Cup.

Sulemana, who joined Nordsjaelland in February of last year, scored ten goals and provided seven assists in 28 games for the Danish club last season.

Last year, Ajax beat United to the signing of another Ghanian youngster, Mohammed Kudus.

In other news, Manchester United has reached an agreement in principle to sign a player from the Premier League's top clubs.
