Tom Heaton strikes deal with Manchester United for free transfer

Tom Heaton strikes deal with Manchester United for free transfer

Tom Heaton of Aston Villa has reportedly agreed to join Manchester United, becoming the club's first signing of the summer.

The current goalkeeping options for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer are David de Gea, Dean Henderson, Sergio Romero, and Lee Grant, though significant changes are expected this transfer window.

DON'T MISS:

The experienced Argentine is expected to leave at the end of his contract next month, while the former Derby County player is expected to retire soon as well.

According to reports, neither De Gea nor Henderson will accept playing second fiddle next season, so one of them will likely leave.

Solskjaer faces a major decision in what will be the most significant change in United's goalkeeping department in recent years.

According to the Mirror, the Red Devils had been in contact with Heaton for several weeks and there was finally a breakthrough when Heaton agreed to join as a free agent from Villa.

The Peoples Person first reported the news about two weeks ago, when it was claimed he was joining to replace Romero as the new number three.

DON'T MISS:

Heaton could become the new number two to whoever is the first choice, De Gea or Henderson, as a result of the aforementioned shuffle.

Although it is unlikely, there have been rumors that Solskjaer may bring in an entirely new face for the starting XI spot between the sticks.

The argument was that the legendary Norwegian hasn't been completely convinced by either goalkeeper, believing that they both have strengths and weaknesses but aren't exactly what he's looking for.

As a result, some reports claim that Manchester United are considering a move for AC Milan's Gianluigi Donnarumma, whose contract expires this summer.

Given that he is only 22 years old, he would be the club's future for at least the next decade.
