Tom Heaton deal to Man United ‘done and completed

It appears that goalkeeper Tom Heaton will be Manchester United's first signing of the 2021 transfer window.

Sergio Romero, as we all know, has been completely frozen out at Old Trafford. The Argentine is expected to leave the Theatre of Dreams this summer, leaving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with a void to fill.

DON'T MISS:

Tom Heaton is here to help. The former Manchester United player has been heavily linked with a return to the Reds in recent weeks.

Fabrizio Romano, the ever-reliable source, has now spoken. He has stated that the deal is ‘done and completed,' with United expected to complete their first signing of the summer in the ‘next weeks.'

Heaton will sign a two-year contract with an option for another year, with a medical in the near future.

Obviously, this isn't the marquee signing that we all want or need, but don't underestimate the importance of having a reliable backup goalkeeper.

DON'T MISS:

Heaton has been in the Premier League for several years and is an excellent shot-stopper. Sure, he's no David de Gea or Dean Henderson, but the 35-year-old Englishman is one of the league's best backups.

It's fantastic that Heaton will now be able to return to Manchester, where he began his professional career. I also believe he'll see plenty of action next season, especially if one of De Gea or Henderson leaves.

Again, Solskjaer is returning the club to its roots, building his squad around a genuine homegrown core of talent, and I'm delighted to hear that Heaton will return to Old Trafford.

We'll have to wait a few weeks for official confirmation.
