According to reports, Manchester United midfielder, Donny van de Beek will hold crunch talks with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about his future at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman struggled in his first season at United after joining from Ajax, making only four Premier League starts and sitting out the club's recent Europa League final defeat.

Earlier this season, the Holland international stated that he desired more playing time." I'm a patient person, but of course you go there to play as much as possible," he said back in November.

"I also believe that in the minutes that I've played and the times that I've come in, I've demonstrated that I can contribute to the team."

But his wish was not granted, and now, according to The Telegraph, the midfielder wants clarity about his future and plans to meet with his manager to discuss his options.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's bid for his first trophy as a manager ended in heartbreak last week when he was defeated on penalties by Villarreal.

The match ended 1-1, with the Spanish club claiming the title after defeating United on penalties 11-10. After the game, Solskjaer stated, "We didn't show up, we didn't play as well as we could."

“We started well; they scored with their only shot on goal, and we're disappointed to concede again on a set-piece.

“We pushed, we pressed, we scored, but we couldn't control the game after that. They made things difficult for us. We didn't take enough big risks.

"Now is not the time to debate what I could have done differently, but if you don't come home with a trophy, you haven't done everything right."

“Of course, it is not a successful season,” he added. That is the nat ure of football's fine margins. Sometimes a single kick can determine whether or not a season is a success.

"Yes, there has been progressing; we finished second in the league, which no one expected given our slow start and lack of pre-season."

“The boys have been fantastic, but they just fell short tonight on penalties. Trophies are important, and that is what matters at this club, so no (it has not been a successful season).
