Manchester United, according to Paul Scholes, must make two significant additions to their squad this summer if they are to compete for the Premier League title next season.
The Red Devils have made significant progress under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but after reaching the summit in January, they were unable to keep pace with eventual champions Manchester City.
The Glazer family, the club's owners, are under pressure to spend money in the transfer market, and United has already been linked with a number of A-list players, including Erling Haaland and Harry Kane.
However, with Edinson Cavani signing a new 12-month contract and Mason Greenwood emerging as one of Europe's most dangerous young forwards, Scholes believes United should concentrate their efforts on strengthening other areas of their squad.
The club legend believes Solskjaer needs a creative player to relieve the pressure on Bruno Fernandes, and that another center-half to play alongside Harry Maguire should be prioritized.
The England center-partnership back's with Victor Lindelof has flourished this season, but Scholes believes the former Benfica defender is a player for whom United should be able to find an upgrade.
'I think we need someone who is a creative midfielder,' he said on the Webby & O'Neill show. One of Grealish or Sancho would be ideal.
'It would be great to have a left-footed center-back, but I don't think it's necessary, and I don't think we're desperate for one.'
I would like to see a center-half replace Maguire. I believe Lindelof is doing well; however, I believe well is insufficient to win a league. ‘Marquinhos from PSG, I think he'd be a fantastic center-half alongside Maguire, but you're talking about a lot of money.'
