The 29-year-old is highly regarded as one of the strongest centre-backs in the world and was courted by Manchester United and Liverpool last year (according to Gazetta Dello Sport, per Daily Express), and it now seems that Napoli is ready to offer the Senegal international at a discount.
"We have been informed by an intermediary near to Napoli that Aurelio de Laurentiis, the chairman and president of Napoli, is ready to take a knockdown price for the defender," McGarry said.
“He was open for €90 million during the summer transfer season.
“We accept that a charge of about €60 million, or perhaps as low as €45 million, will be sufficient to secure his services.
“We already know that Manchester United and Liverpool are still keen, though Liverpool has cooled their enthusiasm considerably.
“According to the same article, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would want a dependable partner for Harry Maguire, someone he can play with week in and week out, so that they can establish a relationship that allows Manchester United more comfortable at the back.”
If Koulibaly is eligible for €45 million (£38.79 million), he could be a massive steal for the Red Devils, and pairing him with Harry Maguire could help strengthen Manchester United's defence.
The Red Devils have conceded 42 goals in 36 league games, which is 13 more than Manchester City, and you might say that if they had a similar defensive record, they would be closer to City.
So it will be curious to see what happens over the summer, but if McGarry is right, Koulibaly may be a relatively inexpensive choice for the Red Devils.
