Rio Ferdinand, a Manchester United hero, told his club on one transfer that was overlooked in a role he is well-versed in.
Manchester United can come to regret ignoring Rio Ferdinand's transfer suggestion. It comes after Ben Godfrey's fantastic performance for Everton in their close win over West Ham to hold their European aspirations alive.
DON"T MISS:
It moves Everton up to eighth in the Premier League thus seriously undermining West Ham's chances of qualifying for the Champions League.
Godfrey, who played a key role in the goal, was one of the night's standout performers.
His deep defence-splitting move placed Dominic Calvert-Lewin through, and the England international finished expertly past Lukasz Fabianski.
He kept Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek quiet in the rear, though also dampening the red-hot Jesse Lingered.
DON"T MISS:
And it backs up Ferdinand's argument that United should have looked into him when he was at Norwich last season.
"Anyone had a chance to sign him but Norwich were going to let him go," Ferdinand said back in 2019 on his YouTube page.
"Listen, I wrote you before that I'd talked to numerous people at various clubs, like [Manchester] United.
"They should have had Ben while he was about £12 million or £15 million and just moved to Norwich. He'd been there for only half a season or a season and a half."
United are planning to recruit a defender this summer and could eventually follow Ferdinand's advice.
Everton, on the other hand, is under no obligation to sell, and if they do, it would be for far more than the £25 million they gave the Canaries last year.
"Listen, there are so many players we might point to and say: they were missed at that point, and they had to pay more," Ferdinand continued.
"That's just life; it's a matter of it, and various people make different decisions. Ninety-nine people will rate a player and dislike him, whilst one person simply says, 'Bang, he's for me.'
"It's just because I've seen these boys grow up and realize what's going on in their heads. I wonder what they have in their toolbox."
