Former Manchester United midfielder Lee Sharpe feels the team may not need to recruit Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and has identified a suitable replacement.
According to the former footballer, Lee Sharpe, Manchester United may not need to recruit Raphael Varane this summer because Eric Bailly's return would be like a "fresh signing.
" Bailly, who joined United from Villarreal in 2016, has only appeared 11 times in the league this season owing to injury.
Sharpe claims that with the Ivorian starting the last two games, the team won't have to invest a lot of money on a centre-back this season.
“[Raphael] Varane will be a nice signing, but Bailly returning would be a little bit like a fresh signing as well, since he's been out for too long,” Sharpe, who appeared 193 times for the club, told GentingBet.
“The problem is that any squad prefers to compete with a consistent back four and goalie, and United haven't really had that.
“I know Lindelof has played most of the season, and we just saw Bailly sign a new deal - he's over his injuries, and I like him as a player.
“If he can get more game time, I believe he can be a valuable centre back for the team.”
“Lindelof is a top-tier centre-half, nor is he world-class?” Tuanzebe plays a little, but it will be ideal to see a world-class centre half alongside Maguire on a daily basis.
“If they look outside of Bailly and Lindelof, they do need to go to find someone, and get someone soon, then figure it out right before the end of the season because it's all finished because dusted, and there's no confusion over who's going in and who's not coming in.”
The Red Devils have been associated with a range of defenders, including Sven Botman, Cristian Romero, and Nikola Milenkovic, in addition to Varane.
Sharpe, on the other hand, argues that if United do recruit a centre-back, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could ignore all of those choices in favour of a more seasoned player who can fit right into the first team.
“I'm not sure if they need a new up and coming centre back, but I believe Manchester United can put in someone who can go right through the side, who is seasoned, and who can support the players in front of them,” he said.
“They need someone who is good at organizing, who understands their position, and who can help organize the midfielders in front of them so that they become a defensive team rather than a back four.
“Experienced center backs on both sides will be beneficial to the full-backs as well.
"As a result, I will still choose experience over a young lad in a center back scenario."
Meanwhile, Luke Shaw has had a strong season with Manchester United, and Sharpe believes Jose Mourinho's exit has played a significant role.
"As far as left-backs go, you'd have to claim he's probably the greatest in the world," he said.
"He's had an incredible season - all praise to him, following a difficult period under Mourinho, who threw him under the bus over his weight and his results, saying he couldn't play because Mourinho was on the touchline asking him precisely what to do."
"It's very amusing because now that Mourinho is gone, he's enjoying the best football of his existence, but I'm not sure what Mourinho was asking him on the sidelines!"
"I've always admired Luke Shaw, and I believe he's a brilliant player." When it comes to targeting fullbacks, most of them are prone to a handful of defensive blunders every game, but he isn't. He seems to be really defensively sound, makes good choices, gets forward, and seldom gives the ball away."
