Manchester United are in a "false spot" in the Premier League, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not the "right man to lead them forward."

According to former Liverpool player Jason McAteer, United would not be too far ahead in the top four if this were a 'regular-season.'

The Red Devils are second in the Premier League, 10 points behind champions Manchester City.

United are four points clear of third-placed Leicester City and could finish the season with a trophy if they win the Europa League final against Villarreal later this month.

The Red Devils' form, however, has slipped after back-to-back Premier League losses.

On Tuesday, United were defeated 2-1 at Old Trafford by Leicester, and on Thursday, they were defeated 4-2 at home by Liverpool.

McAteer has now insisted that there is "still a lot of work to be completed" at United, claiming that Solskjaer lacks the "breaking edge" needed to win the Premier League.

"If things had been usual this season, I don't believe they would be too far ahead in the top four," the 49-year-old told Free Super Tips.

"I don't believe they'd be second in the Premier League, but they're in a misleading spot in that regard."

"There's already a lot of work to be done with them, and I don't believe Solskjaer is the right guy to lead them."

"He's done a good job, but at Manchester United, it's more about collecting cups and Premier Leagues, and he doesn't have the cutting edge to achieve so."

Roy Keane, a Manchester United hero, was dismissive of the Red Devils' success against Liverpool.

The 49-year-old Irishman suspected Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes of weeping "half the night on the field."

Keane also conducted a vicious assault on Scott McTominay and Fred, claiming that the midfield pair would "not be earning any major trophies" for United.
