How Manchester United should line up vs Roma in Europa League semi-final second leg

Manchester United is in a strong spot ahead of tonight's second leg of their Europa League semi-final against Roma (Thursday, 8 pm UK time kick-off).

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team leads the Serie A club 6-2 after a dominant first-leg showing at Old Trafford, however, preparations for the game in Rome have been hampered by massive anti-Glazer demonstrations by United supporters.

The authorities postponed United's league game versus Liverpool on Sunday due to the massive strike.

It remains to be seen if this would have a good or detrimental effect on United, who have a nearly completely healthy squad — with the exception of long-term injury absentees Anthony Martial and Phil Jones, as well as Daniel James, who will also skip the tour.

Man United authors have chosen the teams they believe should face Roma:

Solskjaer overcompensated against Real Sociedad with a four-goal lead, although the difference this time is that United hasn't played in a week. Rome was also the site of one of the Champions League's most unforgettable comebacks in recent memory.

David de Gea and Alex Telles may be brought in without jeopardizing the defense. However, removing Bruno Fernandes and replacing him with the underwhelming Donny van de Beek is too drastic.

DON'T MISS:

There is no reason for Solskjaer to make dramatic adjustments given that United had a rest day on Sunday rather than an intense league game against Liverpool.

De Gea is an easy choice in goal, although Eric Bailly, rather than Victor Lindelof, could profit from some game time at the back. Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka play a lot of game, but they might be substituted at halftime if United is already leading by a large margin.

A four-goal lead from the first leg could allow Solskjaer enough leeway to start Donny van de Beek, with Edinson Cavani and Bruno Fernandes available off the bench if desired.

Some fans dislike the midfield axis of Fred and Scott McTominay, but it will be a wise choice away in Rome.

United could have one foot in the final, but Solskjaer is unlikely to take several chances when he attempts to break his semi-final hoodoo.

De Gea is a foregone conclusion in target, although Telles has already become a fixture in the Europa League this season. Bailly for Lindelof is another possibility, although it's doubtful considering his lack of recent playing time.

The midfield pair, as well as Greenwood on the right flank, choose themselves. Cavani is fit to play in one match this week, but he could be more essential against Villa this weekend.

Pogba is the best choice on the left-wing, but given the four-goal cushion, Van de Beek could be considered a free hit in that position.
