Two massive deals that have been Gossip column favourites for years could happen at the same time this summer...
Cristiano Ronaldo appears to be on his way out of Juventus, and if he does, Manchester United will be on the lookout. United will be there for him even when he's 86.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus is eager to offer Ronaldo to United in exchange for Paul Pogba. Which may be appealing to the Red Devils. It's been five years, and they still haven't figured out how to best utilize their record signing.
It would presumably be a part-exchange deal, with Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford with a few euros to hand over to the Glazers. Both players' contracts expire in a year, with Juve seemingly more eager to offload Ronaldo, who is eight years older than Pogba. In theory, he should be in his prime.
Ronaldo would have to accept a significantly lower salary at Old Trafford than the £500,000 per week he currently earns in Turin. PSG, on the other hand, may be able to come closer to his current terms.
According to reports, Parisians see the 36-year-old as a possible replacement for Kylian Mbappe if the France star leaves this summer.
Arsenal were linked with Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling yesterday, and Gabriel Jesus is said to be on his way to north London this morning.
According to the Daily Star on Sunday, Manchester City could offer Jesus to Tottenham as a makeweight in a deal for Harry Kane.
Jesus is worth £70 million, and City are reportedly willing to pay the same amount in cash to send him to White Hart Lane.
Nathan Ake's name has also been mentioned as a possible option for City to reduce their cash outlay in their pursuit of Kane.
They could have gotten rid of him the night before. As well as a holding midfielder.
CITY TO PURCHASE BRAZILIAN MIDFIELDER
That was unusual behaviour from Pep. Prior to last night, he had played in 59 of the 60 games this season with either Rodri or Fernandinho. You knew the City manager wouldn't sleep between his team's Premier League defeat to Chelsea and the Champions League final as he plotted to defeat Thomas Tuchel, but we expected something more devious.
Pep may be looking to bring in another midfielder this summer. With Fernandinho set to leave City, a void in the champions' lineup could be filled by an old boy.
90 minutes is the estimated time. The city is considering re-signing Douglas Luiz for a fee of £25 million. Luiz joined Villa for £15 million in 2019, but City included a buy-back clause in the agreement, and Villa are concerned that Guardiola will return for the 23-year-old.
Atletico Madrid is also reportedly interested in the Brazilian international, but City has the first refusal. If they bring Luiz back, they will almost certainly be able to sell him for a quick profit, while Villa is said to be looking for replacements.
