Since joining Manchester United in January 2020, Bruno Fernandes has proven to be a game-changer.
In 79 appearances for the Red Devils, the Portuguese midfielder has 40 goals and 25 assists and has played a key role in his team's second-place finish in the Premier League this season.
But he can't do it all by himself. While veteran striker Edinson Cavani has provided assistance, it often appears as if Fernandes is ploughing a solitary furrow, with the team relying on his brilliance to achieve any sort of result.
Reinforcements for the midfield:
Manchester United's central midfield is an area that needs to be improved. While Fred and Scott McTominay are not bad squad players, they are unable to compete with the very best sides, and Paul Pogba's best position remains a conundrum that Ole Gunnar Solskjear must resolve definitively.
Fernandes, on the other hand, could have dropped a hint about how to fortify the area to Solskjear.
In an interview with Canal+ Sport, the Manchester United midfielder was asked who he would like to play with and said:
Technically, Piotr is better than me; he is a top player.
At Udinese, we used to play together. I spoke with him a few months ago and told him I wanted to play with him again.”
Piotr Zielinski has had a fantastic season with Napoli, despite his team being eliminated from the Champions League on the final day.
In 36 Serie A appearances, the Polish international has contributed 8 goals and 11 assists from central midfield, seamlessly taking over from Allan, who left for Everton in the summer.
Zielinski, 27, is talented on the ball and hardworking off it, and he could be just what the Red Devils need to propel them back into contention for the major honors that they are accustomed to. However, they may be better off acting quickly, as a strong European Championship performance could boost Zielinski's value even higher than the £41 million suggested by transfermarkt.com.
