TNT Sports in Argentina aired a lengthy interview with retired footballer Beto Acosta this week. The 54-year-old, who has played for major South American clubs, has had enough time to reflect on his entire career.
It turns out that the striker also discussed what didn't happen during his tenure as a player, which was to play in some leagues. That's when he expressed his desire to join Manchester United in England.
“I would have loved to have played for Manchester United,” Acosta told TNT Sports (via En Cancha). “I would have liked to visit Italy or Spain.”
“However, I wouldn't alter something I did because it was a fantastic career.”
In addition to playing for South American clubs such as Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo, and Universidad Católica, Acosta spent time in Europe, featuring for Sporting in Portugal between 1998 and 2001, where he earned a league championship.
Given that Manchester United had the likes of Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for the center-forward role at the moment, joining Sir Alex Ferguson's side was a difficult goal to achieve.
