The Portuguese talisman has scored staggering 21 goals from midfield in all competitions so far this season and once again stole the Europa League thrashing display at Real Sociedad.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has asked his star striker to easily take responsibility for top-flight target Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has scored 21 goals in all competitions this season - including 14 in the Premier League where United is top of the Premier League tally.

Marcus Rashford hit 17, while Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood were just seven and four.

And Solskjaer told his third front-runner that now it was time to step up to the plate as he looked like his team for the match made a deal with Newcastle on Sunday.

Solskjaer said: "We are the highest-scoring team in the Premier League - so it was a build-up to go.

"But it is fair to say that Mason, Anthony, and Marcus - who was sent off for a number of goals last season - did not hit the same mark this time around.

"I think it's good because when they start testing then we will be a better team and our results will continue.

United has conceded 50 goals in the Premier League - one more than Manchester City leaders - and has beaten nine Southampton cities.

But they have points divided in defeats from Crystal Palace and Sheffield United and draws with Everton and West Brom.

Solskjaer could not afford Toon to leave the meeting when they tried to put the City in front of them.
