Michael Owen: Why Manchester United will "struggle" to win the Premier League title

Michael Owen has reported a claim that the Red Devil team still has things to improve before they can be title contenders.

Michael Owen says Man United is still not Premier League title contenders despite being on the same 33 points as Liverpool who is topping the table.

Owen played for Liverpool but in 2010/2011, he won the Premier League title with Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The former Man United forward believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad is not doing what it takes to show that they are ready to face the Premier League defending Champions Liverpool.

The Ex-England player, however, went further to reveal why he thinks Manchester United are likely not to win the league title this season even though their form has been improved.

The 41-year-old said when asked if Manchester United could win the Premier League title without their star player Bruno Fernandes after beating Aston Villa 1-0 at Old Trafford;

'I am not sure they can win the Premier League title with him, to be honest,' Owen replied.

'I still think they are... I think they are a very good counter-attacking team, against the bigger and better teams they are exceptional and can give anyone a problem.

'The question I have is when they are in possession at the pitch like against Wolves and trying to break them down.

'I watched them the other day and they did not create any chance. for me, they are just right in the mix, no question about it.

'They are second on goal difference, but are they a good team like Liverpool or Manchester City?

'I still believe that they are a step behind and I still think it will be a struggle for them to win the title. But looking at the way they are playing anything is possible.'

He said: 'don't get me wrong I am very happy with the three points and the performance, but there are always some things to improve.

I think the League and the season will be very tight. We have just got to keep working and look for a way to make our team better.

'Every time you win a game you take one step further to winning the Cup. You have just got to get the points. They all count in the game.

'We have a big game on Wednesday against City, I am not even thinking of the Premier League match against Liverpool yet.'

Manchester United will be back in action on Wednesday as they prepare to welcome rival Man City in the Carabao Cup Semi-final at Old Trafford.
