“I have to calm down” – Man United player furious, avoids saying ‘something stupid’

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof couldn't conceal his disappointment after a poor performance on international duty last night.

Sweden was defeated 2-1 by Greece in a World Cup qualifier in Athens, and the 27-year-old believes his team should have done far better.

“I need to cool down or I'll say something stupid,” Lindelof told the Swedish media after the game (via Aftonbladet).

“What we are accomplishing now is not acceptable. I'm not sure why, but we never make it to the level. Before the game,

we agreed that whoever wanted it the most will win. The Greeks wanted it more than we did, and we were defeated.”

Sweden stunned Spain last week in a stunning comeback, and that was interpreted as a strong indication that they may compete for first place in the group. With Greece's defeat, they have reclaimed the second position, much to the pleasure of the Spanish media.

The top page of Thursday's issue of Mundo Deportivo read 'Muchas Gracias,' referring to Greece's win.

Victor Lindelof will now return to England to play Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set to start Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire for most of the season, the Sweden international will have to wait for his time.
