Manchester United, according to Alan Shearer, will finish third in the Premier League this season.
Alan Shearer, a Premier League icon, has predicted Manchester United would finish third in the league this season, according to BBC Sports (h/t Express).
Last season, the Red Devils finished second to local rivals Manchester City. Despite being in the title race and momentarily leading, we were unable to maintain our momentum and finished 12 points behind Pep Guardiola's side.
While finishing second demonstrated progress in terms of position, there is still a long way to go before we win title number 21. Shearer, on the other hand, does not feel we are presently capable of doing so and has even backed Chelsea to finish ahead of us.

The city has signed the talented Jack Grealish this summer and are expected to retain their title. They can, however, be defeated, as Leicester City demonstrated in the Community Shield. In the meantime, Pep Guardiola has yet to find a successor for Sergio Aguero.
Chelsea, for their part, has been hot and cold, but they appear to be on the verge of re-signing Romelu Lukaku. Thomas Tuchel will be better equipped to face the Premier League challenge now that he has completed a full pre-season.
While they are unquestionably a good team, United has a similar level of talent running through their ranks and can finish higher. Shearer, on the other hand, believes otherwise and has picked the Blues to win the championship. The former England striker also predicted that Manchester United will finish third, with Liverpool finishing fourth.

Liverpool, who finished the season strongly the previous year, cannot be overlooked. When its key players are fully fit, Jurgen Klopp's team is a terrifying opponent. Even with proper reinforcements, United clearly has a struggle on their hands to win the league.
The ball is in our court, and sending a message against Leeds United on opening day will calm anxieties. The outcome of the game last night might very well set the tone for the rest of the season.
Shearer is not the only BBC expert who believes United will not win the Premier League this season. Rob Green, Chris Sutton, and Matthew Upson all predict that the Red Devils will finish in the top four, but not in the Premier League (h/t BBC Sport).
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has frequently outperformed expectations at Old Trafford, and the onus is on him to do so once more. While critics can say whatever they want, it is the team we put on the field that determines our fate.
