As Manchester United prepares for the upcoming Premier League season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to keep an eye on James Garner.
Garner, Anthony Elanga, Teden Mengi, and Facundo Pellestri are among the young players who have been given the opportunity to shine throughout the preseason.
Others, such Tahith Chong and Will Fish, have received playing time ahead of loan deals with Birmingham City and Stockport County, respectively.
However, as the returning international players continue to regain their fitness and prepare for next season, more young players are expected to leave Old Trafford on loan.
Garner's future is a topic of discussion. Last season, the midfielder spent the majority of his time on loan in the Championship, particularly shining at Nottingham Forest in the second half of the season.
Garner made 20 appearances for the Reds, scoring four goals and establishing himself as a crucial player under Chris Hughton, so it's no surprise that Forest want him back on loan next season.
Swansea City, meantime, are rumoured to be interested in signing the 20-year-old, despite the fact that the Swans are still looking for a new manager following the departure of Steve Cooper.
What Garner has in store for him is still a mystery. The objective, according to Alan Nixon, is to re-sign the midfielder, whose current contract expires in 2022.
Garner will almost certainly be sent out on loan again, but whether he will end up in the Championship remains to be seen.
For the time being, Garner is firmly entrenched in United's pre-season plans. He came on at the hour mark in Wednesday night's 2-2 draw with Brentford at Old Trafford, replacing Andreas Pereira.
