Manchester United have been warned that purchasing £73 million Jadon Sancho was a waste of money and that they could have spent the money on an England teammate who would have brought much-needed grit to their midfield.

Earlier this month, United officially announced an agreement in principle for the Borussia Dortmund star. The news brought an end to a year-long transfer quest, but the Red Devils are certain he will be worth the wait.

DON'T MISS:

Despite his £73 million price tag, Sancho has established himself as a dangerous attacking force in the Bundesliga, scoring goals and assisting on numerous occasions.

Furthermore, at the age of 21, he may provide ten or more years of service, with the potential to improve with time.

Sancho will have a big impact on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, according to Rio Ferdinand.

The Red Devils, on the other hand, have a lot of forwards. He'll join Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Daniel James, and Amad Diallo in a group that currently comprises Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Daniel James, and Amad Diallo. They also have Edinson Cavani, who can play in the center of the field.

As a result, there has been a lot of speculation that Martial will be fired. It appears that an unexpected loan move is in the works.

DON'T MISS:

Former United defender Paul Parker believes that the club's large investment in Sancho would be better spent elsewhere now that their offensive options have been bolstered.

As a result, he believes United should have put his England teammate Declan Rice first. Parker believes the West Ham player, who has been linked with a move to United, has demonstrated his quality at Euro 2020. He believes he is the type of midfielder their team lacks and that he should have been their top recruitment priority.

Parker told the Daily Express, "There's a way of just being that defensive guy, but there's also a way of being a midfield player who can get into the attacking third."

“United don't have that guy, so you have to look at Declan Rice if they're going to go into the market.

“It’s all about someone young. If you were to go and spend the Sancho money on him, you would have got someone who is proven in the Premier League. Everyone talks about him and knows about him.”

Rice would add craft to United midfield

Parker also feels Rice could prove the difference-maker if United wants to wrestle the Premier League title off Manchester City.

“Declan Rice, take the dust off of it, is a box-to-box player,” he added. “You can use that because that’s exactly what it is.

“He’s not just content sitting in there to think he’s doing his job, sideways, square passes and back. He can drop into the back four to give it back to a center-half then run off and just get your stats up.

“He actually wants to make things happen on the edge of the box. And the bonus is that he’s willing to run back and recover as well if things were to break down.

“He’s not already being there waiting and being an extra person at the back. He’s willing to do both.

“So if you’re going to keep it within the shores, you are not going to get anyone better than him in this moment in time.”
