He actually wants Manchester United switch and refused Paris St Germain

According to rumors, Raphael Varane has his heart set on a move to Manchester United and has turned down the opportunity to join Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Varane is rumored to be United's top center-back target this summer, but he has so far refused to sign a new contract with Real Madrid.

DON'T MISS:

The Red Devils are thought to have made contact with Los Blancos to begin talks and have been granted permission to speak with the player about a prospective transfer to Old Trafford.

While Real Madrid would prefer to keep the player or provoke a bidding war in order to raise the price, United appears to be the only choice for the 28-year-old.

PSG chose Sergio Ramos over Raphael Varane because the Frenchman preferred to join Manchester United,' according to Spanish journalist Jorge Calabrese on his ‘El Bunker' program (via MUFCMPB)

Calabres, it should be noted, is not a Tier 1 reporter, although he is regarded as quite trustworthy in Spain.

Rob Blanchette, an English journalist with a comparable reputation, has also tweeted a favorable update on the Varane situation.

‘#MUFC are presently £12 million short of Varane's asking price, but PSG's confirmation of Ramos should assist the United & Madrid negotiations progress,' Blanchette tweeted.

DON'T MISS:

Real are in desperate need of cash and don't want to lose the player on a free transfer. Varane wishes to depart. It's time to get this over with.

As we mentioned yesterday, Fabrizio Romano, the most senior of all reporters, claims that Madrid's asking price has yet to be divulged to United, who sent an inquiry a week ago and are awaiting a response.

Los Merengues are in a difficult situation in this window, therefore it's understandable that they are delaying talks with the Frenchman.

They've already lost Sergio Ramos, Varane's center-back partner, and they won't want to lose both. They don't want to be held hostage, so they believe their annual offer of over €9 million (almost £150,000 per week) to the Frenchman is the maximum they can afford. United is said to have made an offer of €12 million (about £200,000 per week).

Another aspect influencing their choice is whether they will be able to pry Kylian Mbappe away from PSG this summer. They'll need to raise finances, and selling Varane will be necessary. They will want to maintain Varane if a deal for Mbappe is impossible.

For their part, United will want a deal tying up quickly so that they have time to integrate the 28-year-old into their squad during pre-season. A tempting offer with a time limit might be the best strategy right now to avoid a summer of waiting and seeing, during which alternative targets might get snapped up by other clubs.
