If Saul Niguez joins Manchester United, Atletico Madrid will reportedly launch a move for Manchester City midfielder Yangel Herrera.

Niguez has been linked with a transfer away from Atletico Madrid this summer, with Manchester United, Barcelona, Juventus, and Liverpool all interested in signing the 25-year-old

United are reportedly considering a deal for Niguez, with Paris Saint-Germain preparing to make an offer for Paul Pogba, according to Sportsmail. Niguez is expected to cost approximately £45 million, according to the Red Devils.

Niguez appeared to be on his way to Barcelona, with a possible exchange for Antoine Griezmann being mooted before wages became an issue. Saul has a contract with Atletico through 2026 and is one of the club's best earners

If Niguez moves to Old Trafford, Mundo Deportivo reports that Atletico will look for a replacement.

Herrera, a City midfielder, is being investigated as a viable candidate, according to the Spanish site.

Herrera spent the 2020-2021 season on loan at Granada in LaLiga, and Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone is claimed to have been impressed.

Pep Guardiola had explored bringing the midfielder into his team for the coming season, but the Venezuelan isn't expected to stay at the Etihad.

Herrera, who made 46 appearances for Granada last season, has been linked with Leeds, West Ham and Southampton.

A number of players who were judged surplus to requirements have previously been sold by City.

DON'T MISS:

Jack Harrison returned to Leeds after two successful loan seasons with the Yorkshire club.

Lukas Nmecha and Angelino also left, while Manchester United's deal for Jadon Sancho will net the club roughly £10 million due to a 15% sell-on option in the Borussia Dortmund star's contract.

City will use the monies to bolster their squad in order to defend their Premier League title.

Guardiola's top two transfer targets are Harry Kane and Jack Grealish, although the City manager has stated that the club cannot afford a high-priced replacement for Sergio Aguero, who joined Barcelona on a free transfer in June.
