Villarreal make decision on Manchester United swap deal for his transfer

Pau Torres of Villarreal could join Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

Despite their interest in Raphael Varane, Manchester United has been linked with a deal for Pau Torres. Villarreal, on the other hand, is said to be uninterested in a prospective swap deal for the Spain international. Instead, the Red Devils must pay the player's full £55 million buyout clause.

Manchester United is on the lookout for a new defender during the summer transfer window.

Varane is the club's primary aim at the moment, with the Real Madrid star looking likely to depart the Bernabeu as his contract expires.

However, ties to Torres have grown stronger in recent days, with the Spain international being another player of interest at Old Trafford.

He's presently focusing on assisting his country at Euro 2020, as they are attempting to qualify from Group A after drawing their first two matches against Sweden and Poland.

Villarreal, on the other hand, is expected to be tough negotiator when it comes to a prospective transfer.

DON'T MISS:

According to Catalan newspaper Sport, the La Liga club has no interest in a potential transfer to United because they want to keep their prized defensive asset.

United will have to pay the player's full £55 million buyout clause if they want to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

With such a figure, he would become the club's second most expensive defender, behind only Harry Maguire, who cost £80 million.

And it remains to be seen whether United will go all out to sign Torres, especially given their desire to sign Varane.

Villarreal are not obligated to sell the 24-year-old, who was instrumental in their Europa League triumph last season.

Unai Emery's team is hoping Torres will stay put and help them compete in Europe's elite club competition, with Champions League football on the table.

While United are interested in signing him, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also interested in a number of other players as he pursues Premier League title success.

The club's main target is Jadon Sancho, and talks with Borussia Dortmund are ongoing as they try to finalize a deal.

Sancho has previously come close to joining the Theatre of Dreams, but there is genuine optimism that an agreement will be reached this time, four years after Jose Mourinho first expressed interest.

Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and West Ham's Declan Rice are being monitored in midfield.

United are still interested in signing Atletico Madrid's Kieran Trippier, despite the fact that the La Liga giants have stated that they want £43 million for the England international.

And a deal for Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo isn't completely off the table, with the Portuguese international seeming increasingly ready to depart Turin for a new challenge overseas.

Torres was asked about his future recently, and he admitted that he was excited about Villarreal's current project after they defeated United to win the Europa League title.

He said, "I have a contract with Villarreal."

“I just won the club's first title, and we've qualified for the Champions League, which is something that really excites me.

Now my focus is on the Euros, followed by the Super Cup and other nice things, so I'm completely relaxed. I live in my hometown, which is very quiet, and I'm doing beautiful things and fighting for great things with my hometown team.

"I'm completely calm; right now, all I'm thinking about is the European Championship, which starts on Wednesday [when Spain plays Slovakia]."

Diego Forlan and Giuseppe Rossi were previously sold to Villarreal after negotiations with United.

After struggling under Sir Alex Ferguson, Forlan left Old Trafford in 2005.

After disappointing loan spells with Newcastle United and Parma, Rossi followed two years later.
