Man Utd handed Jude Bellingham transfer blow as Dortmund draw up contract plans

Man Utd handed Jude Bellingham transfer blow as Dortmund draw up contract plans

Manchester United has been linked with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham for some time.

According to sources, Borussia Dortmund is prepared to offer Jude Bellingham a new deal, which might put an end to Manchester United's chances of signing the England midfielder in the near future. Since joining Dortmund from Birmingham City this summer, the 17-year-old has turned a lot of heads.

 DON'T MISS:

He came on as a second-half substitute for the Three Lions against Croatia on Sunday afternoon.

Over the course of his rookie season, Bellingham appeared in 46 games across all competitions, scoring four goals and adding four assists.

His performances won him a spot in Gareth Southgate's final 26-man Euro 2020 squad, and he is claimed to have piqued the interest of a number of clubs as a result of his strong performances.

In recent months, United, Chelsea, and Liverpool have all been linked with Bellingham's services, although the Red Devils are believed to have a long-standing interest.

They tried to entice him away from Birmingham a year ago, but he chose to join Dortmund instead, and it's unclear whether the 20-time Premier League champions will pursue him again next season.

However, it appears that United will have to wait even longer to bring Bellingham to Old Trafford, since his current employers are attempting to retain him in Germany.

According to Bild, Dortmund is preparing to offer the midfielder a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2025.

DON'T MISS:

Bellingham signed a three-year contract with the club when he arrived in July of last year, and the report indicates that when he reaches 18 at the end of the month, he might be poised to sign further terms.

This would effectively end United's prospects of signing him before the start of the new season, and indicate that if the Red Devils decide to make another move in a year or two, Dortmund could demand a massive amount for their man.

The player himself explained his November choice to reject United, revealing that he simply had his heart set on a move to the Westfalenstadion over everything else.

"Well, you know, Man United has a terrific squad," Bellingham told The Telegraph, "but my decision had nothing to do with Man United."

"I was so focused and pleased with Dortmund's interest that this became my first choice. It was Borussia Dortmund for me, and that was the end of it.

"You kind of forget everything else when you find somewhere that's the finest place to be, you know what I mean?"

Meanwhile, Watford captain and talkSPORT analyst Troy Deeney recently suggested that Bellingham's age-defying exploits for Dortmund had already justified his choice to reject a move to Manchester.

"You realize that this kid is absolutely unique when you see Bellingham now commanding games for Borussia Dortmund and looking so assured in the England midfield," Deeney told The Sun.

"He is the epitome of mustard. Midway through the season, he was heavily associated with Manchester United, and I discussed it with a couple of Birmingham coaching staff members.

"I thought it was a little early for him to make such a big move, but those who worked with him stated, "Absolutely, 100%, he would go to Man United and play right away."

"Jude eventually moved to Dortmund after believing that in the Bundesliga, young players are considerably more likely to start important matches than in the Premier League.

"Another English lad, Jadon Sancho, who was a schoolboy at Watford's academy, took a similar path. Both have been proven to be correct."
