According to Football Insider, Manchester United are prepared to walk away from the Kieran Trippier deal unless Atletico Madrid decreases their asking price.
Last week, this site reported that the La Liga winners had turned down a £10 million opening approach from United for the right-back.
According to a recruitment source, the English giants wanted to return to the bargaining table with a better offer but were scared off by Atletico's position.
In the last 24 hours, the Spaniards have made it clear that they will not lower their £35 million asking prices for the England full-back.
That, according to United, is completely unreasonable for a player who will turn 31 in September and will be out of contract in two years.
Trippier has made 68 appearances for Atleti since joining the club in the summer of 2019.
Last season, he won his first league title as the Madrid club took advantage of Real Madrid and Barcelona's dismal form.
During a strong personal season, the defender also had six assists.
Trippier was named to England's Euro 2020 squad based on his performance last season.
At his first game for the Three Lions, he began in the unfamiliar left-back position and helped his team keep a clean sheet.
With the Red Devils keeping a tight eye on him, this will have done him no harm.
Trippier might make his debut against Scotland at Wembley Stadium tomorrow.
Trippier spent four seasons with Tottenham Hotspur before making the move to Spain.
For the north London club, he made 114 appearances.
In other Manchester United news, conditions have been finalised on a stunning signing after talks over the weekend.
