Barcelona has made an offer to Donny van de Beek, with the Manchester United midfielder reportedly willing to transfer to the Camp Nou.

Last summer, United paid £35 million for the Dutchman, but he struggled in his maiden season in the Premier League.

DON'T MISS:

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Van de Beek was limited to just 15 starting appearances, with only four of those coming in the league, generating speculation about his long-term future at Old Trafford.

According to a recent Telegraph article, Van de Beek's patience at the club is wearing thin, with the former Ajax star surprised and anxious about his lack of opportunities.

Following their failed attempts to sign another Dutchman in Georginio Wijnaldum – who spurned the Catalan giants for a move to Paris Saint-Germain – his management seems to be looking for other options and has offered the 24-year-old to Barcelona.

DON'T MISS:

According to Sport, van de Beek would be 'delighted to join the La Liga giants, where he would reunite with former Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong.

Barcelona has yet to respond definitively to the offer, but according to the source, the club is looking for a more defensively-minded midfielder and is likely to go elsewhere.

Over the last year, a number of prominent Dutch football figures have lobbied van de Beek to leave United, including former Tottenham player Rafael van der Vaart, who recently stated that his countryman is "far too brilliant" to be on the bench.

'If no one else leaves United this summer, he'll be lucky to get into the starting lineup,' he remarked.

‘He's far too talented to spend two seasons on the bench. He is in desperate need of minutes. Although he is still young, time passes.

‘For him, a club like Borussia Dortmund would have been a better next step. Manchester United could be too much for him.'
