According to a source, Juventus are considering a player-plus-cash deal to recruit Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, who is also wanted by Manchester United.

Following his recent appointment as United's football director, John Murtough confronts a crucial first transfer window in which he must drive the club closer to silverware. Last season, they got closer by finishing second in the Premier League and reaching the Europa League final, but they still need more reinforcements.

Former United coach Nicky Butt has suggested that center-back is a transfer priority for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While Raphael Varane of Real Madrid appears to be the most likely transfer so far, Serbian international Milenkovic is still linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old is approaching the end of his contract and has reportedly informed Fiorentina that he wishes to go.

Fali Ramadani, his agent, is now seeking for his client's next club. United may still be interested, but according to Calciomercato, new Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri has his own plans.

Fiorentina is expected to seek between €15 million and €18 million (£13 million and £15 million), but Juve executives believe they can reduce the price by integrating a player.

It's unclear who that player is, but it could be Radu Dragusin. The Serie A giants are rumored to be interested in acquiring the intriguing centre-back as part of a deal for Italy's Manuel Locatelli.

In any case, Fiorentina are hoping to spark a bidding war for Milenkovic, who appeared in 34 of the 38 games in the Italian top flight last season.
