Solskjaer has four-man shortlist totalling more than £300 million

Solskjaer has four-man shortlist totalling more than £300 million

This summer, the Red Devils are expected to spend a lot of money.

Another Manchester United season has ended without a trophy, and the club's ongoing trophy drought could lead to a busy transfer window under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

While some feared that United would not sign a centre-forward after Edinson Cavani agreed to extend his contract at Old Trafford, it has been reported that Solskjaer remains hopeful of bringing in a new striker this summer.

According to The Guardian, Solskjaer has identified four areas where he hopes to improve ahead of next season: centre-back, midfield, winger, and centre-forward.

Manchester United transfer rumours

According to the report, the United manager has compiled a list of his preferred targets in each position, which includes Pau Torres, Declan Rice, Jadon Sancho, and Harry Kane.

Solskjaer is unlikely to bring in all four of his top targets, not least because the fee-only spending spree would cost more than £300 million.

Kane immediately piqued the interest of a number of clubs last week by hinting at a desire to leave Tottenham Hotspur, though the English frontman would not come cheap, and United's rivals Manchester City are thought to be favourites to sign Kane.

Sancho, who has been a target for United for some time, is said to be the most likely new arrival, with a fee in the region of £80 million.

West Ham remains adamant about keeping their midfield general, and it would take a bid of around £100 million for the Hammers to part ways with the 22-year-old.

United got a good look at the other named target, Torres, earlier this week, when the Villarreal defender was on the winning side in Wednesday's Europa League final in Gdansk. He is estimated to be worth around £25 million.

Solskjaer recently stated that if Manchester United is to continue progressing, they must be active in the transfer window this summer.

“As I previously stated, two or three players to strengthen the starting XI and the squad as a whole,” the Norwegian stated.

“It's critical for us to go even further because I'm sure our competitors will want to improve as well, so we'll want to improve as much as we can.”

According to reports, United are also in the process of finalizing a deal to bring former goalkeeper Tom Heaton back to the club when his contract with Aston Villa expires.
