Man Utd handed double injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Man Utd handed double injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Fernandes has emerged as United's star player since joining Sporting CP in 2020, and he is on the verge of signing a lucrative new deal.

Before agreeing to a contract valued at about £200,000 per week, the Portuguese midfielder reportedly needs some promises.

Manchester United has been dealt a double injury setback ahead of tonight's Premier League match against Liverpool...

What's the most recent news?

The Red Devils will play their third of four games this week as they host the 2019/20 champions at Old Trafford in this rescheduled match, which should be an interesting affair.

United have almost certainly reclaimed the second position but would not want to fall to their arch-rivals, whilst the Reds need a win to strengthen their top-four claims.

Before the game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer informed MUTV that he will be missing two main players: captain Harry Maguire and winger Daniel James.

“He's certainly had the tests, and the positive thing is there is no fracture,” he said of Maguire. There is a ligament injury, but we expect to see him again this season. He should be set for the [Europa League] final.”

DON"T MISS:

In terms of Dan James, he said, "Dan James is not available." He'll be out for a little bit longer.”

Unsettling headlines

It is critical for Liverpool to win all three points this evening, and the Manchester giants would try to trigger an uproar in their rival's bid to qualify for the Champions League.

Solskjaer definitely demonstrated his intentions on Tuesday night, almost rotating his whole XI against Leicester City, but we can anticipate a solid lineup here. City was proclaimed champions this season as a result of their loss.

However, with games on Tuesday, Sunday, and Wednesday, Solskjaer could be disappointed that he cannot continue to rotate in key places.

In Maguire's absence, the 48-year-old manager has just Axel Tuanzebe to choose from, with Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof presumably first-choice candidates. United still miss an out-and-out right-winger, but losing James is a crushing blow.

Of course, Manchester United have nothing to compete for in the Premier League, but they would want to create momentum ahead of the vital Europa League final, where Solskjaer could earn his first trophy at the club.

He'll be worried about the health of these two players going into the final, since none is certain to make it. It would be a crushing blow if neither were available against Villarreal in ten days.
