Jurgen Klopp issues bold Manchester United title claim and outlines Paul Pogba threat

Jurgen Klopp issues bold Manchester United title claim and outlines Paul Pogba threat

Even if the Premier League crown seems to be going around the capital, Jurgen Klopp insists Manchester United will not throw in the towel just yet.

Following a memorable 6-2 Europa League victory over Roma at Old Trafford, United will host bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday afternoon (4.30 pm).

DON'T MISS:

By the time the game kicks off, they could be 13 points behind Manchester City at the top of the table.

However, United could close the gap on Pep Guardiola's side if they suffer a shock loss to mid-table Crystal Palace just over 24 hours before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men face Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Klopp, like other analysts, was impressed by United's performance against Roma, with five goals coming during a rampant second-half showing against the Serie A side.

"Of course, a really difficult game," the German said at his pre-match press conference.

Both sides were stressed during the game. We saw Manchester United play last night, and they're really good.

DON'T MISS:

They were really soaring after the half-time chat. It's a difficult one. I'm sure United still believes in their chances [of winning the title at the detriment of City], and it will be a game between two teams competing for victory.

"This is a decent start to a football game, in my opinion. It must be won by both sides. Let's see what we can come up with."

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made three changes to his United starting lineup from the 0-0 draw with Leeds United, starting David de Gea, Paul Pogba, and Edinson Cavani in place of number one Dean Henderson, Dan James, and Mason Greenwood, who did come off the bench to score.

Despite the swift turnaround, Klopp does not anticipate a significantly different challenge than the one met by Roma last night, and he also highlighted the hazard of Pogba, one of four different goal scorers for United against the Italians.

He continued, saying: "I don't believe United decided to make several changes. I believe that 75% of their roster is the same team that plays the majority of the games. Fernandes plays almost every game with the four upfront, and the other three he can adjust if required.

"Is it Rashford or Greenwood in the starting lineup? Is it James or Greenwood who is on the wing? Is it Rashford or Pogba on the wing?

"Pogba clearly had another excellent game last night. We know who we'll be up against. United can't make drastic improvements and certainly won't make them if there weren't any injuries last night. That, I believe, is clear."
