Jadon Sancho, a winger for Borussia Dortmund, is said to be more optimistic than ever about joining Manchester United this summer.

The England international has long been a trade priority for United, and it is understood that the player's future salary and agent fees were settled a year earlier.

However, the Bundesliga club's selling price for the player - said to be £108 million - was prohibitively high, preventing a transfer from taking place.

This summer is expected to be even more realistic for a transfer, with the player's asking price falling dramatically, according to the latest estimates, and not being in the range of £85 million.

The value would almost certainly need to be negotiated in order for United to secure their ultimate goal, but it sets the stage for the process to begin.

According to Eurosport, the 21-year-old is becoming more optimistic that he would be able to complete his transfer to Old Trafford, which he was disappointed could not be done last year.

DON'T MISS:

Sancho has been in excellent form recently, scoring 10 goals in his last 13 appearances and a double in both of his last two games, including a double in the 4-1 DFB-Pokal Cup final victory over RB Leipzig this week.

In 36 games this season, he has now scored 16 goals and given 18 assists, putting his team back in the top four in the Bundesliga and on track to qualify for the Champions League next season.

However, the economic repercussions of the pandemic remain unknown, and Dortmund, which regularly has one of the best attendances in European football, may be mindful of the need to strengthen their financial status this summer.

On transfer deadline day last October, United invested £46 million on rookie right-sided strikers Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellestri, but Sancho's presence will fix a long-term problem position for the team.
