Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani has agreed on a one-year deal extension to remain at Old Trafford next season, according to the club.
This season, the 34-year-old Uruguayan has scored 15 goals to support United finish second in the Premier League and reach the Europa League final. The forward was widely expected to move to South America this season. He has, though, agreed to live in Manchester.

Cavani said on the club's website, "Over the season, I have grown a great affection for the club and all it represents."
“I have a strong relationship with my teammates as well as the people who work behind the scenes here. They inspire me every day, and I know that we will do great things together.”
“I said when Edinson signed that he will bring passion, strength, and leadership to this party, and I haven't been proven wrong, he has been everything I hoped he would be and more,” United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continued.
“As managers, we were aware of his goal-scoring record. However, it is his charisma that has contributed so much to this squad; he has a winning spirit and an unwavering approach about all he does.
“Edinson is one of the last to quit the practice field and sets the stage for the next generation of players in his approach to his job every day.

Owen asserts Solskjaer has lost faith in his star player.
Meanwhile, Michael Owen says that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lacks the trust to play Paul Pogba in the squad that "every supporter" desires.
On his comeback, the French midfielder has had his best season in a United jersey. He has three vital Premier League goals and five assists in 24 Premier League appearances. In reality, he has scored four goals in the last five games, including the game-winning goal in the Europa League last-16 tie against AC Milan.
Meanwhile, he has played in a holding midfield position at times this season, and although he is mostly a midfielder, he has often played out broad.
Nonetheless, Pogba has made the overwhelming majority of his games this season from the center of midfield.
In reality, he has only started four games further back and played out broad in Sunday's 3-1 victory over Aston Villa.
As a result, Owen reported on Premier League Productions‘ coverage of the game that Solskjaer is hesitant to trust the France international in a holding midfield position.
“I'm sure any Manchester United fan on the planet will agree: have Paul Pogba in alongside one sitting midfielder,” the pundit added.
“Then you can have an extra body forward, like [Edinson] Cavani, and bring [Bruno] Fernandes in behind the two usual broad players.
“However, as it stands, you have to place Cavani on the bench because you don't trust Pogba as a sitting midfielder, so you have to play him out there. It's a puzzle.”
