Bruno Fernandes is close to signing a new £200,000-a-week contract with Manchester United after admitting he is pleased with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team's progress.

According to the Mirror, the Portuguese midfielder is set to double his current salary after another productive season in which he led the Old Trafford scoring charts with 28 goals.

DON'T MISS:

His agent, Miguel Pinto, arrived in Manchester on Tuesday to intensify talks with United, which wants the deal completed before the Euros.

“My priority today is to win trophies,” Fernandes stated. Collective titles are more important than individual titles, and this is something we are working on here. I believe the club has greatly improved since my arrival.

It is in a growth phase, and the players are acquiring the mentality that should be present in a club like Manchester United, which seeks to win titles and more titles.

“That's why we're here. I feel like I'm a part of it, and I'm here to help the club grow.”

DON'T MISS:

Pinto's work in the UK also included assessing the level of interest in Sporting Lisbon left-back Nuno Mendes by both Manchester clubs.

The city remains the 18-year-most old's likely destination, but Sporting demand that his £60.25m buy-out clause be met in full – which is proving prohibitively expensive.

Bruno, 26, joined United from Sporting in a £47 million deal just over a year ago and has established himself as the Reds' most consistent player.

His current contract has four years left on it, but United wants to reward him for his outstanding performances.

Fernandes' adviser was eager to learn about Manchester United's summer transfer plans.
