Atletico step up contract talks over £69m Man Utd bid fear

According to sources in Spain, Atletico Madrid is so worried that Manchester United will want to entice Marcos Llorente away from Spain that they have stepped up renewal negotiations with the midfielder.

The Spain international has had a fantastic season at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, scoring 12 goals and helping 10 more in La Liga, with Atletico Madrid still atop the table.

DON"T MISS:

Since going through Real Madrid's youth system, the boyhood Real Madrid supporter has won four caps for Spain after leaving Los Blancos for Atletico Madrid in 2019.

Back in March, Spanish publication AS reported that Manchester United had made an offer for Llorente, with the Premier League club's recruitment squad willing to pay €80 million to carry Llorente to Old Trafford.

Any contract that included him moving to Manchester United would also include double the Spaniard's salary if he committed to the transfer.

And now, according to AS (via Sport Witness), Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain have entered the Red Devils in the fight to sign Llorente this season.

DON"T MISS:

His 'extraordinary results' and the fear that Manchester United would make an €80 million (£69 million) offer for Llorente have 'intensified' negotiations between Atletico and the midfielder about a new contract.

According to the paper, Llorente has little intention to abandon Atletico, and the club wants to retain him considering the financial consequences of the pandemic.

Atletico Madrid will be proclaimed champion if they win all three of their remaining La Liga games, with Barcelona drawing 3-3 against Levante on Tuesday night.

Barca was held to a 2-2 draw after trailing 2-0 at halftime, and after Ousmane Dembele gave them the lead again, substitute Sergio Leon salvaged a point for the hosts.

The outcome puts Ronald Koeman's team a point behind champions Atletico Madrid and a point clear of Real Madrid, who have three games remaining to Barcelona's two. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid compete on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

And, as stated by Marca, Koeman said at a post-match press conference: "The league is more complex now." The aim was to win all three games, but it is now very difficult.”
