According to news in Italy, former Manchester United and England defender Chris Smalling was held at gunpoint along with his wife and two-year-old son as three 'armed and hooded' intruders stormed his home near Rome.
Smalling's villa, some 25 miles south of Rome, was broken into in the early hours of Friday morning, with the robbers forcing the star to open a safe before fleeing with jewels.

Smalling, 31, was recovering from a knee injury when his team faced Ajax in the second leg of their Europa League quarter-final second leg on Thursday night at Rome's Stadio Olimpico – a match they drew 1-1 to advance to the semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate.

Smalling isn't the only Roma figure who has been attacked by criminals in recent months.
Back in November, robbers broke into boss Paulo Fonseca's home in Monteverde and stole watches and jewels worth around €100,000.
Fonseca and his family were not at home during the theft.
