Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has declined to reveal whether he would give Jesse Lingard a new deal as he returns from his loan spell with West Ham.
Lingard has scored eight goals in nine Premier League games to help West Ham climb to fourth place, and he was named to England's World Cup qualifying squad for the first time in nearly two years last month.
DON'T MISS:
Lingard, 28, is in the final year of his deal with United, and he only appeared three times for the club this season before joining West Ham, both of which were in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Lingard has not started a league game for United since January 1, 2020, and West Ham intend to make his loan transfer permanent.
Solskjaer is overjoyed with Lingard's career revival and has confirmed that he will return to United before making a definitive decision about his future.
DON'T MISS:
When asked whether Lingard should get a new contract, Solskjaer said, "Jesse has been brilliant since he left."
"I've addressed this a number of times.
We should have held him for selfish reasons because he's still needed.
Jesse is a great lad around the spot, a Man United fan through and through, and he never once complained or caused me a problem (due to a lack of playing time), only came in and worked very hard.
And he deserved a chance to play more games, which is why we let him go to West Ham; he deserved a chance for what he's done for Man United in his career.
"Of course, we'll be glad to see him again."
I hope he heads to the Euros because, based on his recent results and confidence, I don't think it's out of the question.
And I'm hoping he has a good league finish.
"It was different here because Bruno, in his current shape, has been playing in arguably Jesse's favorite position, and that was the decision we made."
I'm happy for Jesse and wish him the best for the remainder of the season before he returns."
