Former England defender Gary Neville has slammed his former side Manchester United for formally founding the Super League with 11 other top European clubs (ESL).
The party – which includes AC Milan, Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Juventus, and Liverpool – issued an official statement on Monday.

By bringing together the world's greatest clubs and players to compete against each other during the season, the Super League will open a new chapter for European football, ensuring world-class competition and facilities, as well as increased financial support for the wider football pyramid,” Joel Glazer, co-chairman of Manchester United and vice-chairman of the Super League, was quoted in the press as saying.
Though FIFA and UEFA have vowed to take action against those involved in the new ESL, former football stars have also spoken out against the move.
When commenting on Sky Sports, Neville called it a "total embarrassment."
“I'm the most disgusted with Manchester United and Liverpool,” Neville added.

“We must reclaim influence in this country from the clubs at the top of this league, including my own.
“It's all about vanity, and they're impostors.
The managers of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester City have little to do with football in the United Kingdom.
Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham Hotspur are not yet in the Champions League.
Is it still legal for them to be there?
They're a total farce.
“The time has come for neutral regulators to prevent these clubs from wielding influence.
Enough already.”
Neville has recommended that steps be taken against all teams affiliated with the Super League.
“Deduct all of their points, drop them to the bottom of the league, and take all of their money,” Neville said.
“Seriously, you ought to put your stamp on this.
It is a heinous crime against football fans in this country.
They should be punished.
“They [club owners] would actually go into hiding in a few weeks and say it has nothing to do with them and that they were just joking about it.
“Seriously, in the middle of a pandemic and a global recession, these people are making Zoom calls over breaking free and simply instilling more greed?
Laughter.”
It needs to be seen how the case will turn out.
UEFA and FIFA have already stated that they would not recognize the league and will discipline the players who participate in the competition.
Meanwhile, the ESL said in a statement that they would hold talks with the two foreign bodies in the immediate future in order to reach an amicable resolution.
